Conybeare, Notes upon Armenian Sources (The Guardian,
i8July 1894, p. 1122—1123).

fehr verlockend: 1) A Talking Cross, 2) An Unknown
Passage of Polycarp, 3) A Notice of Aristides the Apo-
logist and an Unknown Passage from Iiis Works, 4) Two
New Allusions to Papias, 5) Traces of an Armenian
Version of the Preaching of Peter.

Kaifer Magnetius (Maxentius) vom 21. Auguft.
Chriftus, Sohn Gottes u. f.w.'. Die Sache ift. von geringem
Intereffe.

2) In einem Ms. Armen. Vatic. (no. P) befindet fich
armenifchen Theologen Vardan Vardapet saec. XII. Hier
heifst es: ,But the day of the birth of Jesus Chr. we haue
heard was on the 5. day of the week and His baptism
on Kyriake. B?d Polycarp, a disciple of John the Baptist1!),
wrote that His birth zvas on a Sunday, and His baptism
on the j. day of the week. And to this Ananias Shara-
küni testifies, a rhetor who excelled in the science of
calcndar'.

Jahrh. (in Conftantinopel, Trebi-
?). Hier heifst es: ,But Isubmit to the decision of
the holy Polycarp; for he was a disciple of John the
Evangelist, and an ear-zvitness of all the narratives of
the Saviour. And he declares the birth to have occurred
on the 1. day of the week' . . .') But he declared that

the day of the baptism occurred after jo years in the '■ aus Vardan's Erklärungen des A.T. (wo ftehen (ie?) aus

Abfchnitt über die Erfcheinungen des Auferftandenen?
,But the aloe which the brought ivas composed, so they
say, half of oil and half of honcy. But it is certaiu that
the aloe is a kind of incense, as is related by the geographer
and by Papias; that (oder for) there are ig kinds
of aloe in India, and four of thetn are precious kinds,
namely (folgen vier armenifche Namen). Tlience was

For they were rieh'l).

Jerufalems, u. f.w. Dann heifst es:

,After which Aristides Merri (PMarcianusP), Philosopher
of Athens, companion of Kodratius, hearcr of the
Apostle (oder comp, of Kod. the Apostle, hearer), made
the ig. of the moon for (oder of) the Romans (to be
Easter Day). And in this way comparing (oder assimi-
lating) he declared that the 1. day of April is the begin-
ning of creation. And since the moon was created on the
4. day, he placed on the 4. day of April the ip of the
moon, and appointed it he ad of the whole. Because on
the same day occurs, aecording to the Hebrews the ip of
Nisan, the füll, and the extreme limit. After whom
Leontis (!), the father of Origen, made the ig. of the
moon (to be Easter Day) for (oder of) the Egyptians and
Ethiopians'.

5) In dem Ms. Paris, nr. 12 (Anc. Fonds Armin.),
gefchrieben i.
(fol. 108) die nicht-kanonifchen Bücher: ,Tobit
and Judith and the Testaments and Tobias [P]. These
are not taken in the number, but they are aeeepted'. Dann
folgen die kanonifchen Bücher des N.T. (4 Ew., 14 Paulusbriefe
, Acta, 7 Cath.). ,And of Clement are writteuj books;
we have admitted thetn into the Church. Also Ananias
of Damascus, one book of Jacobus he calls the reading
(lectionem). Two (books of) Canons of the Apostles. Three
sermones of Justus, four books of Dionysius Areopagita.
Five which J (Vardan Vardapet ergänzt Conybeare)
wrote, the Preaching of Peter the Apostle'.

zugefchrieben. Vielleicht, fährt C. fort, ift folgende Stelle
